Linux server installed with Oracle pre-requisites, in 15 minutes or less.
This video demonstrates the power of PXE booting, and automating Operating System installation with Red Hat Kickstart and similar technologies.
The raw footage is 13 minutes. Which is actually quite fast, but is rather boring to watch.
The video has been edited to demonstrate the little amount of interaction required to meet Oracle pre-requisites, when these pre-installation requirements have been automated.
The stuff that has been edited for time, follows.
1) The long boot process: system scanning SCSI bus and RAID controllers; basic self tests on hardware.
2) Startup of the RedHat installation: it takes a few minutes for all of the disk and hardware drivers to load.
3) Data partition formatting: the largest volume took well over a minute to complete formatting.

Linux on Slim Playstation 2
[updated]!
PlayStation 2 slim console booting Linux. This is done with MegaMan’s kernel loader and deba5er’s BlackRhino Linux distribution.
On slim consoles the kernel will NOT work with Linux installed on USB, it will crash and freeze all the time. Mouse / keyboard work, mass storage does not.
You need to have the Linux distribution stored on a network share (I have a NSLU2 NAS). Also network boot is quicker than the USB 1.1 ports on the PS2.
I am using kloader and the linux kernel from

DVD from original PS2 Linux kit is needed to get sound working.

,`\ 100% Puppy Linux /`, Sub-128 MB Linux Distro
Demonstration of Puppy Linux Dingo 4.0
Specs on the machines:
Thinkpad 600X (P3-533 with ~512MB)
Dynex Wireless PCMCIA card
Thinkpad 760EL (P-133 with 64MB)
no USB, serial/parallel ports,
BIOS does not support booting from CDROM drive.
I demonstrate wireless connectivity and playback of a music video from youtube with the 600X.. Puppy Linux instantly recognized my card, and found my router, hooking up to router was very easy.
On the second machine, I just demonstrate a graphics program, as I wasn’t able to connect to the Internet, nor anything else of significance. I have a zip drive somewhere, and could have used that, but if I was desperate, maybe I could get it to work.
The program used to boot the 760EL, since it’s bios doesn’t support booting from anything other than floppies (which I didn’t have a drive for), and Hard drives, note it does support booting from a network (a feature that isn’t popular these days).. But I had to look around for a program that would permit me to boot from a cdrom, the program I found is:
Smart Boot Manager
Google it.. Or go here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/btmgr/
You can use Smart Boot Manager to boot any operating system, even windows install disks.. So its a good thing to have especially if you have an old BIOS.
